White Rock Kennels is dedicated to breeding and training Llewellin Setters to use as wild bird hunting dogs. The Llewellin is not a trial dog, but we participate in two restricted Llewellin walking trials each year to rate our dogs against those from other Llewellin kennels. In addition, we use our Llewellins as guide dogs in a commercial wild bird hunting operation to evaluate how they do in a real life, fair chase hunting situation where there is a pressure to produce.

One of the things we like most about the Llewellin is how easy they handle. Whether they naturally range at 50 yards or at 150 yards, they always stay in touch with you without any need for constant hacking or stimulation from an electric collar. The clients we guide, who are usually more accustomed to hunting over other short coated breeds, often comment on how well we train our dogs to handle. Well, we don't. The Llewellin will, literally, stay in front of a moving Kawasaki Mule with little or no handler effort. We've lost exactly one -- Abby -- while hunting over the last seven years, and had her back within an hour. A ranch hand on a neighboring property brought her back to us. Abby was sitting in the front seat of his truck. When she realized she was lost, she found someone to bring her home. You can't lose a
Llewellin.
